Our advice for couples is to build a Queenstown trip around slow time together rather than a full activity list. Spend one evening on Lake Wakatipu, give an afternoon to a winery, book one long dinner, and choose a single special trip, such as Milford Sound by air. Fill the gaps with free walks and drives. Check opening days before you plan around a restaurant: Amisfield, for example, opens Wednesday to Sunday. Lake and air plans depend on the weather, so keep a backup evening in mind.

The TSS Earnslaw has an annual maintenance break, when Spirit of Queenstown has covered Walter Peak trips. Check current status for your dates.
- Weather
Helicopter and lake plans depend on the weather. Ask each operator what happens if your day is called off.
- Walking routes
Upgrade works have put a Frankton Track detour beside Frankton Road. Check current status and the route before an evening walk.
