Arrowtown's autumn display is still delivering. The poplar and willow corridors along the Arrow River are in full gold, and the drive out to Lake Hayes offers some of the best photography conditions of the year — calm water, snow-dusted peaks in the distance, and low-angle light.

For visitors, this means the window for autumn day trips is still open. Combine an Arrowtown morning walk with an afternoon wine tour through Gibbston Valley, or loop through Lake Hayes and the Crown Range to Wānaka for a full day of colour.

Local operators note that midweek visits are quieter than weekends — if you want the classic Millbrook or Arrowtown autumn shot without crowds, aim for Tuesday through Thursday.
