If you've been waiting for the postcard autumn weekend, this is it.

**Friday – Sunday outlook:** - Daytime highs around 14–16°C, clear skies, light breeze - Overnight lows down to 1–3°C with widespread frost - Lake conditions calm both mornings — ideal for photography, lakeside walks, scenic flights - UV is high in the middle of the day even in autumn — bring sunscreen

**What to wear:** layers. Beanie at dawn, t-shirt by 11am, jacket back on by 4pm.

**Best activities this weekend:** - Anything outdoors that doesn't depend on snow - Glenorchy or Arrowtown autumn drives (see our other posts) - Gondola at sunset — sunset is around 5:34pm - Lakeside dinner in Queenstown CBD — calm conditions mean clear reflections

**Looking ahead:** A southerly change is forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday next week, dropping snow to about 1,500m. That's the first proper snow event of the season for the ski fields. If you're heading to Coronet Peak or The Remarkables to look at progress, mid-next-week is your window.
